SpeakSoft

Developed in conjunction with the national charity REMAP (Rehabilitation Mobility Advisory Panel), SpeakSoft is an electronic aid for people suffering from hearing loss.

SpeakSoft, although looking like the proverbial “little black box”, is an electronic alerting device that discreetly informs the wearer that he or she is speaking too loud for the environment they are in.

The electronic box is clipped to a belt or carried in a pocket. The microphone is clipped to a shirt or blouse collar. The electronic box vibrates when the user’s voice becomes too loud for the environment in which he or she is speaking. This allows the user to discreetly lower their voice. When the voice is quite enough, the vibration stops.

SpeakSoft was awarded the Inman prize for innovation.
