e-mail us: Julie and Lance Here’s
a little gem of a cross-country skiing trip near Perth, Central Scotland: Located in Perthshire 4-miles
south of Aberfeldy on the A826, this forest track has the ability to hold
snow when everywhere else is green! There is parking on the
east of the road at a forestry commission car park, however on the two
occasions we have skied here the car park has been usable only by
4-wheel drive vehicles. There is alternative parking on the west of the road
approximately 100m further south. This route is 8.5 miles
in length if you do the complete trip, but shorter excursions are just as
rewarding – Loch Kennard is beautiful when frozen over – and is best done
by staying on the north side of the loch. Opting for the anticlockwise
circuit of Loch Kennard and Loch Scoly gives you the longest section of
down-hill skiing. At no time on the route (which is also used for mountain
biking) is the ground too steep, and the section between miles two and
three is a very controllable (and therefore enjoyable) slope dropping only
300 feet over the mile. The route is very easy
to follow on the ground, and is way marked for the mountain bikers. In the
drawing below all of the major tracks are shown: blue is the route
described and brown are side tracks which can offer additional skiing for the
fit! We have skied this route
twice, on two different winters, and were very surprised how well this area
held its snow. ENJOY!
